The Adidas Stan Smith Now Comes with Primeknit and Boost.

Meet the most comfortable Stan Smith sneaker ever created.

In 2015, Adidas dropped the Adidas Stan Smith Primeknit, a lightweight, breathable iteration of the classic tennis sneaker that boasted Adidas’s then-new Primeknit upper. The sneakers instantly became a warm weather essential for guys across the globe. Then, earlier this month, Adidas offered up yet another twist on the Stan Smith—one that featured Boost, its still relatively new sole unit that people can’t seem to get enough of given its cloud-like comfort. But why stop there? Over the weekend, Adidas debuted a version of the sneaker that combines not one, but both of these new technologies into one sneaker, creating the Adidas Stan Smith Boost Primeknit.

Perhaps the most impressive feat of the new, technologically-advanced Adidas Stan Smith is that it still basically retains all of the things that make the Adidas Stan Smith one of the most beloved sneakers of all time. It’s got the classic shape, the green/navy/red back (depending on your preference), and that box-fresh crisp white color. All it does it add the promise of unparalleled comfort.

Sneaker purists might not like the liberties Adidas took with the Boost Primeknit version. There’s something to be said for not messing with a shoe as classic as the Stan Smith (if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, after all). Aesthetically, the Boost sole doesn’t read as streamlined as the classic rubber sole, and from personal experience we can say that the Primeknit upper is a dirt magnet. But it would behoove any doubters out there to try the sneaker for themselves to see—and feel—the difference the modern sole and upper actually make. Don’t fix what ain’t broke, sure. But maybe there’s something to be said for improving what ain’t broke to make it even better.
